Course Description
Interpreting ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001: - A clause-by-clause review and interpretation of OHSAS 18001, ISO14001: 1996 with comments on the changes in draft standard ISO14001: 2004. Also included is commentary on ABS QE interpretations.
Auditing ISO14001: 2004 & OHSAS 18001 – A clause-by-clause review of how to audit ISO14001: 2004 & OHSAS 18001. Also, an ongoing discussion of ISO 14001:2004/OHSAS 18001 linkages and themes including regulatory compliance, significant aspects, views of interested parties, documentation and procedures, and continual improvement.
Audit theory, tools and skills – A discussion of how internal audits may be approached to add value to an organization. Also, detailed presentation and practice with focus on developing auditing skills in audit preparation, checklist development, document review, interviewing, observation and reporting.

Upon successful completion, attendees will have been provided with the knowledge to:
- Conduct an internal ISO14001/OHSAS 18001 internal audit. Use a positive audit approach that seeks to add-value.
- Identify audit criteria for the organization that goes beyond ISO14001 & OHSAS 18001.
- Develop a customized checklist unique to the organization to be audited.
- Use document review, interviews and observation to collect objective evidence.
- Audit clause-by-clause and EMS & OHSAS themes.
- Evaluate the organization’s status relative to each requirement of ISO14001: 2004 and OHSAS 18001.
